SUPPORTING WOMEN AND GIRLS IN AFGHANISTAN
RESOURCE FOR SCHOOLS
With the help of the women we support in Afghanistan, WRN has created a resource for use in schools. It is completely free - please share with schools.
This education pack, aimed at teachers of 9 to 14-year-olds, contains information and activities to introduce global issues into the classroom and help teachers and students learn about the lives and thoughts of girls living in Afghanistan, who have been deprived of their right to education.
It is comprised of three sections.
-
Students can learn about the United Nations Rights of the Child and Global Goals.
-
They can read letters from Afghan girls and see examples of their astonishing artwork depicting their lives and fight for education and rights.
-
They can also find out about how young people can take action within their school community and beyond to raise awareness of what is happening to Afghan girls and take action to make the world a more hopeful place.
There are also letters from Afghan girls that can be shared with pupils.
The resources are flexible and adaptable. They can be used as starting points for discussions, lessons or assemblies, or form part of a larger extended cross-curricular project with a partner school.

Making a donation direct to WRN is another way that you can help support the work we are doing to raise awareness and provide direct support.
POETRY ANTHOLOGY
These poems were written in an online workshop organised by Vicky Gough and WRN Afghanistan in the spring and summer of 2025.
The workshops were inspired by Hadia Aziz, supported by Sanctuary Arts at Mansfield College Oxford and led by poet Kate Clanchy.
WRN VIGILS
Regular silent vigils were held every 4-6 weeks from February 2025 leading up to a mass participation Vigil event in London on 6th July 2025 at Parliament Square Gardens.
WRN groups held regular silent vigils in their towns and cities to show support and solidarity for Afghan women and girls in their darkest days. We showed them that we will never forget and shone a light on the relentless attack on Afghan women's voices and freedoms.
“Women – Be Seen”, the London event, allowed us to platform the words and poetry of Afghan women and girls. Wearing iconic outfits, we created a spectacle, and we spoke about and remembered Afghan women.

WRITE TO YOUR MP
We have already written to the Prime Minister, and will continue to write to him and other relevant Cabinet Ministers.
We are asking that the UK join with the Netherlands, Australia, Germany and Canada in their action to bring the Taliban to the International Court of Justice to be held accountable for their crimes.
We are asking you to contact your MP asking them to press the PM into the action detailed in our letter.

WE ASK KEIR STARMER
