COUNCILS IMPLEMENTING SELF-ID

WRN Manchester have received Legal Advice from Akua Reindorf KC that Manchester City Council’s (MCC) introduction of self-ID in women only Council facilities such as swimming is unlawful. MCC has implemented a motion passed in February 2022 that affirms ‘trans women are women’.

Full details are in the blog ‘A captured council: Manchester City Council refuses to protect women’s single sex services

The full advice from Akua Reindorf is available here:

This advice is available for ALL members and any member of the public to challenge self-ID in Council services. We hope that Akua Reindorf KC’s Legal Advice will be of value to those fighting to protect women’s single sex spaces in other local authorities and organisations who provide services for the public. Please read the blog and the advice or the Executive Summary (linked to from the blog) and make use of it.

If your local swimming pool has women only provision, ask is it women only and do you allow males who self-ID as women to use these services? Or ask the question at a Council meeting.

If they have introduced self-ID complain to your councillors, you could also email the Leader of the Council and any Councillor with responsibilities for women, equalities or leisure services. Your Council will have a complaints process, you can also use that. Also ensure your MP knows what the Council is up to and that this is unlawful and potentially discriminatory.

WRN Manchester has produced this Template Email for Manchester Councillors, adapt for your own Council.
